According to Global times News Agancy Europe,European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will pay official visits to Azerbaijan and Armenia next week, Paula Pinho, the European Commission’s Chief Spokesperson, said during a briefing in Brussels.Pinho said that von der Leyen will arrive in Baku on July 1 before traveling to Yerevan.She noted that the visit to the South Caucasus is intended to demonstrate the European Union’s commitment to strengthening its partnerships in the region and to reaffirm the EU’s support for achieving a lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.Peace, transport connectivity, and economic integration will be the key themes of this visit. Particular attention will be paid to improving transport links between Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia,” she said.European media have already described the upcoming trip as a “Journey along the Silk Road.” Sources say the discussions are expected to focus on the changing regional balance of power and transport connectivity, whose strategic importance has grown amid the conflict in the Middle East.Ursula von der Leyen is also expected to make a number of significant statements during the visit.
